Guidelines for Users
This section lists what the user may and may not do. See the following
section, Guidelines for Administrators
to see what you may expect the System Administrators to do.
- Do not share your account/password with anyone.
- Do not run large computational jobs. These machines are for e-mail
and class-work only. Use only research machines for your research.
- Do not share binaries (programs you have compiled) with other users,
or run programs that others have created for you. This is a security
risk, since you don't know what the programs may be doing to your files
(ie, grabbing your password). If you would like additional software
installed, contact the system
administrator.

Guidelines for Administrators
This section lists what you may expect from the System Administrators.
- The systems will be backed up regularly to guard against loss of data.
- Every reasonable effort will be made to ensure the systems stay up and
are reliable.
- When necessary (and only when necessary) the SysAdmin may look at user
files, including e-mail or other files which are not world-readable. The
SysAdmin may also modify these files as necessary for the benefit of the
user or other users. Note: "necessary" as used above is at the SysAdmin's
discretion. While the SysAdmin will keep the contents of your files
confidential, you may wish to encrypt any data you feel is extremely private.
