Job Announcement Imaging Technology Group Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Interactive Web Designer
The Imaging Technology Group (ITG) at the Beckman Institute is looking for a part-time interactive web designer to help develop next generation tools for their Bugscope project (http://bugscope.beckman.uiuc.edu). The Bugscope project provides real-time web-based access to ITG’s scanning electron microscope to school kids worldwide so that they can image bugs in high-magnification. ITG is currently developing new remote instrumentation tools for the project. Part of this upgrade will include a new website and a number of interactive web tools that present, manipulate, and sort database-housed data. This data includes SEM images, chat text, applications, etc. Tools to be written include an image gallery, application form, and session management tools. Applicants for the position must be highly experienced in the multiple facets of web design required for these tasks. They include CSS and standards-based markup, programming in scripting languages for interaction and database connectivity (e.g. PHP with MySQL, ruby, etc.), knowledge of SQL, and an aesthetic sensibility for web design. We are looking for someone who really understands their stuff. If child selectors, CSS browser hacks, and AJAX are your thing then we might have a fit. If you’re interested, please contact Ben Grosser at grosser [at] uiuc.edu with a cover letter and links to example sites. With the examples, please indicate what parts of the site (if not all) you were responsible for, and include the technologies used to make it work. |
