Automated Electron Microscopy

The goal of this project is to develop a system for automatically acquiring  and analyzing large numbers of high quality images from a transmission electron microscope in a routine, robust and efficient manner. In particular we are developing applications that allow for data collection from specimens preserved in vitreous ice. The general problem of automating the acquisition of micrographs is of great interest to a large number of diverse scientific communities. It is also a highly complex challenge as in the general case it means that we must capture and model the behavior of an intelligent operator.
