mol2mel – A Tool for Converting Molecular Data from Cerius² to Maya

mol2mel is a software program written in Perl that converts molecular data from MSI’s Cerius² to Alias|Wavefront’s Maya. The data it translates is model data for any molecule created in Cerius². Atom location, bond location, and element types are preserved and made available inside Maya for further animation, visualization or rendering.

mol2mel accomplishes this conversion by reading in MACCS files (extension is .mol). The MACCS format is a common and simple molecule specification format created by MDL, and is one of several options for saving files from Cerius². The .mol file lists each atom, its type, its 3-dimensional location and what it is (or is not) bonded to.
