Several pieces of auxiliary equipment have been added to the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) since its installation in January of this year. Some of them, such as the insect rotating device (‘bug-on-a-spit’), were fabricated here in the building; others, such as the micromanipulator/microinjector, arrived in trade or on loan from the manufacturer (FEI Company). We have also acquired a sputter coater, on loan until the specific turbo-pumped version we have ordered can be assembled and delivered. These new additions to the Microscopy Suite will greatly enhance our ability to image a wide variety of specimens.
