Researchers in the Neuronal Patterns Analysis group at Beckman Institute are working with Janet Sinn-Hanlon of the Imaging Technologies Group to reconstruct a digital 3-D atlas of the rabbit brain from serial histology sections. The 3-D digital atlas will be used to anatomically map and store experimental data from electrode readings as well as corresponding information. The atlas will be made available to authorized collaborating researchers over the World Wide Web. Remote access to the 3-D digital database will allow the results of multiple experiments to be readily shared and compared. This week's ITG forum will focus on the imaging techniques used to prepare and reconstruct the 3-D model from serial histology sections.
