Now the resolution of the TEM is thousands times better that in the LM scope - on this picture obtained on our Philips CM200 scope you can see that it is easily possible to distinguish between two lines that have 2.3 angstroms distance between them. This is an image of gold on carbon film. The image was taken with accelerating voltage of 200 kilovolts, that provides a very short wave of electrons and thus increases the resolution. It is important to mention that the column should contain a very high vacuum to prevent electron scattering - up to 10-8 Torr.
