Transmission Electron Microscopy: What Information can be Obtained from the Ultrathin Section?

The Microscopy suite in the Beckman Institute is an extremely well-equipped environment for sample preparation and their visualization on electron-microscopic level. This presentation covers the description of the available instruments and equipment for electron microscopy (fixation, automated embedding processor, Ultracut for 10-100 nm sectioning, carbon-evaporator), specific steps required for sample preparation (depending on the nature of the sample) and interpretation of images obtained by means of TEM. Further possible development of TEM in microscopy suite will be suggested.
