  • Slices of 3D datasets chosen
  • Printing directly from page
  • Saving as PostScript, TIFF, etc.

Notes

Most researchers desire hardcopy at some point. The publish package provides a mechanism for doing simple page layout without having to resort to PowerPoint or Photoshop.

Publish comes as part of the entire ImageSetter subsystem, which we do not use in the VMIL at this time. But you can still use the layout features, print to the printers, and create image files.

Publish uses simple tools for layout, annotation, and drawing. PowerPoint it is not. But you can create some basic pages which are better than relying on screen caputures or other image conversion programs. You can even place 3D datasets on the page, though you must select a slice of the dataset to print.

Publish contains some interesting "bugs": the mechanism for printing to a printer behaves unconventionally and the image sizing does not appear to work correctly. Hopefully these problems can be remedied locally.
