Stereology Workstation (SW)

Stereology Workstation

Using the Zeiss AxioImager A1 light microscope and the software provided, one may trace and analyze branching structures throughout single or serial sections. The SW will also plot and analyze the distribution of cells throughout single or serial sections. Measurements may be made while tracing, and the system includes all modern stereological probes for unbiased measurements (optical fractionator, optical and physical dissector, Cavalieri, cycloids, lines, nucleators, rotator).

A chart for immersion oil types can be found here.

ITG users may reserve time on the SW using the Stereology calendar.

File Format: StereoInvestigator saves tracing data in either binary (by specifying a file extention of .DAT) or ASCII (file extention .ASC).
Neurolucida saves the image files by default in MBF 8-bit binary files. Other formats supported are GIF, JPEG, TIF, TGA, PCX and PIW: use "Save As" to save the image file in one of those formats.
Neuroexplorer (which is used for tracing analysis, including those done using Neurolucida and StereoInvestigator software) opens Neurolucida.DAT binary files, as well as ASC, ASCII, or NRX file formats. The data are saved as MicroBrightField.DAT files.
