Human Tongue Muscle Striations

The two visualizations rendered here are of segmented cadaverous human tongue muscles. The full-sized region on the left covers a volume of 10mm x 10mm x 15mm from the central portion of the tongue. Clearly visible are the muscle striations which are naturally arranged in an orthogonal pattern, seen here as pink interwoven layers.
These visualizations were created using Amira. The ITG is investigating the purchase of Amira as another tool to aid researchers who need the ability to quickly analyze and segment biological tissues.
